The medical jargon: His belly has been a bit bloated on and off for the past few days. This was being attributed to air from the oxygen tubes, because all other digestive processes seemed to be functioning well. However, last night his belly was very distended again, he hadn't pooped in a while, was having more apnea episodes, and there was green icky stuff in his belly. X-rays and a blood test also revealed hints of possible infection. In an attempt to nip it in the bud, they have started him on antibiotics and took some additional cultures, the results of which will be back in 24-48 hours. What the doctors are being very cautious of is an infection called NEC, which is a comon digestive problem for little guys: http://kidshealth.org/parent/medical/digestive/nec.html. They are hoping to rule this out with the results of the cultures and additional x-rays. If he does develop NEC, the first course of treatment is continued antibiotics.
The good news is that his condition seems to be improving. When we were there during the day today, his color was a little off and he had several apnea episodes. However, by tonight, he had pooped, his belly was softer, his color was better and his apnea episodes had significantly decreased. We hope this continues through the night.
Tired of being poked and prodded today, here is Jack trying to scare the nurse away when she was attempting to take his temperature.

I am sure it was an exhausting day for all of you. Just hang in there. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
Jack, just take it easy and absorb your medicine and heal quickly. Chicago will wait for you. You just let us know when you are ready.
Hugs and Kisses - Grandma Glynn
I checked with Mayor Daley. Chicago isn't going anywhere without you.
Come on home when everybody's tummy is ready.

I love the picture of him scaring off the nurses. So cute.
Hey there, Donna.. (Soren and Jack too)
My computer is up and running again.. and I'm back up to speed. I'm sure this roller coaster ride is an anxious one. Remember to keep breathing and go with the turns.. as this coaster is called.. "THE RIDE OF YOUR LIFETIME", and someone else is at the switch. We love you.. and can't wait for you both to bring your little guy home to Chicago.
With Love,
Great Aunt Corry..
ewwww..GAC.. for short.
How about.. just HRH?
I'm thinkin he might be a little nervous/excited about his flight. Hense the upset tummy. You know, will all of your stuff fit in the suitcase without exceeding weight limits. Getting through security. Removing your foot gear;praying you don't have toe jam from bootie fuzz. No worries little buddy. Just hold on tight to that pacifier. Maybe ask Mom and Dad for an advance on your allowance, just in case you need to purchase a beverage. We'll be waiting when you're ready.

I'm SO disappointed for all of you. It appears that our little Jack has a little Glynn in him and feels that he has to show everyone who the REAL boss is!!
Jack just may have needed a little more time to decide how he is going to fit all of his extra large clothes and his favorite purple binky in his carry all (and don't forget all of those lovely sock hats).
Or is it that he already has a hottie in the crib next to his that he wants to get to know a little better before he leaves?? (I hear that the women in New York are VERY friendly.)
Don't be afraid little Jack. Chicago is called the Windy City, but it has really nice people there. And you always have your grandma and grandpa as well as aunts, uncles and cousins to visit in New York.
You get better real fast and hurry home.
Until then, give your Mom and Dad, and Grandma and Grandpa Culver a big kiss for me. Remember who your FAVORITE Great Aunt and Great Uncle are . . .
Love,
Kevin and Nancy
