Jack had a doctors appointment last Thursday and weighed in at 14 lbs 8 oz. That is TEN TIMES his birth weight. He is also on the size charts for a 7 month old (the very bottom), which is awesome for a preemie as little as he was. Most of his energy this week has gone to growing his hair, which is now a more even layer of fuzz.
He seems to enjoy the bananas we've been giving him in his cereal and I also gave him "tastes" of a few things yesterday. It started innocently enough with putting some of the juice from a nectarine on his lips. He liked that. Then later, as I was eating some baby carrots, I held one to his mouth for him to gum a little. I learned my lesson quickly as he started to suck on the carrot like a bottle and quickly move it further into his mouth. I tightenend my grip on the slippery little carrot and imagined heimliching it out of his little throat. Carrot rescued, crisis averted. No more baby carrots for Jack. Every day we learn a lesson. We can only hope that most of them won't involve a trip to the emergency room.
As a birthday gift, Laura and I took a very deserving Grandma to "High Tea" at the Drake on Saturday. I recommend it to any ladies visiting Chicago or looking for a girls day out. Fancy tea, scones, little crustless sandwiches and a harpist. A lovely way to spend a frigid February afternoon. While we were out, Grandpa Glynn and Uncle John P took very good care of Jack and Grace. The day wasn't too well documented in photos, but, well, it's been a week and I assumed all my faithful blog junkies were looking for an update :-)

Wow! 14 lbs, 8 oz. - you are obviously doing everything right!!
It looks like while you were having "high tea", little Jack was in very good hands. Uncle John is an old pro.
It appears that you had a good time with the "girls afternoon out". I'm sure that the guys did too.
Thanks for the update.
Love to all . . .

High tea.. sounds lovely! What a perfect way to spend an afternoon. I'm sure Grandpa and John had a wonderful time as well with the babies. Do they both change diapers?

Don't give him baby carrots Donna!.. Try a donut!
