"I Love You, Stinky Face"

I Love You, Stinky Face is one of Jack's books. It's a mom telling her child, no matter what he is, even if he is monster or a stinky skunk, she will still love him. As Jack threw up for a solid 24 hours, I couldn't help but think of it.

However, as I was lying in his bed with him at 2am, holding the puke bowl, waiting for him to rise again, I actually had a moment of being very thankful.

Thankful that this 3-year old boy who started as a micropreemie...a mere 1lb 12oz..is perfect...and this is just a little flu bug that will pass.
Thankful that he has a cozy bed to cuddle in when he is sick
Thankful that we are employed with benefits..and that our jobs are flexible enough for us to care for a boy with a bug.
Thankful that Soren is asleep in the next room, ready and willing to take over if I need some sleep (or if we wake Maddie, which we did). And thankful that I can hand the boy and the bowl over to him in the morning when I need to work, and that all will be well taken care of.
Thankful for our family.

Poor little buddy.

B had to take a spin in the washer as a result of the last few days. He was placed on the dining room table to sun himself dry.

He looks like he's pondering. A faithful companion, taking one for the team. I've seen Toy Story WAY too many times.
As I type this, poor Maddie just lost her lunch. "Ding! Round 2!"

Happier times, pre-pukefest:
Silly Santas in front of the tree. Maddie puts on the hat and says "ho ho ho."

Soren said last night, that most of what Maddie does reminds him of the show, "Jackass." She's become quite the climber/daredevil
"My name is Maddie Ruth and I'm going to jump off this fireplace and catch that cord in my teeth as I land in the Christmas tree."

No, she didn't actually do that, but some days it seems like she comes close.
Maddie really getting "into" Christmas

My poor poor Culver family! This too shall pass. And to the sweetheart Mom, who can hold the puke bowl while stroking the head of her sick child and yet STILL count her blessings. . . "I Love You, Stinky Face"!

The flu is no fun so I hope everyone gets better soon.

Also ... one day when Jack goes off to college? I'm going to frame that photo of B looking out the window and make you cry your everything off.
