That picture was from exactly two years ago today. Married for only 5 days, in the beautiful paradise of Maui. Ahhhhh...sunsets and mai tais. We celebrated our anniversary last weekend with a hotel stay downtown. It was a nice little getaway without the drive. We shopped on Michigan Ave, had dinner at Shaw's Crabhouse (YUM), went to the beach and had a wonderful time while Jack spent the night with my mom and dad---thank you!. Since our first anniversary was marked by Jack's last blood transfusion in the NICU, this one was much more enjoyable . If you ever find yourself downtown Chicago, you can have this incredible view from the Renaissance hotel. Our anniversary is also marked every year by the air & water show, so we could see the Blue Angels flying between the buildings.
No need to get all philosophical about how times have changed. In the time it took me to write the paragraph above, I've relocated 3 times to keep slimy little hands off the keyboard, and read "Fluffy Chick and Friends" twice. Which brings me to the post within the post:
WHEN BOOKS ATTACK
Remember last week when I said Jack loves books and being read to? Well, it's gotten a little out of control. Since he doesn't have the coordination to crawl while carrying a book, the request "please read this to me" is a high pitched screech and a book being launched toward me. We try to calmly respond by saying "book please." Some of these books are big. And heavy. But we don't want to discourage him from reading, right? After marathon reading sessions, I find myself distracting him.."let's play catch," "how about this train?" "where's the monkey?" "how about the cars?" "the drum?" "would you stop being a nerd and play with your toys?" (just kidding...kind of).
A picture Laura took of Jack & Grace on Friday. Cute.

Donna, too crazy - we honeymooned in Maui also! The sunset picture brings back memories of a time long ago (or so it seems!). We're dealing with Claire blowing raspberries with every mouthful of food. We want her to eat but it has become my achilles heel in patience with her. And I think we're just in the beginning of all that from what it sounds like... thanks for the posting!
Hang in there Donna. In just a week (Sept 2nd) Grandpa and I will read to Jack on the airplane and then Grammie Culver and Uncle Ezra can read to him the entire week up in Maine. Can't wait!
Oh, Donna.. I know that feeling all too well. I remember dreaming of reading all sorts of books to my girls.. then cut to me.. trying to do ANYTHING but that. So, you'll find yourself reciting the book and telling him to turn the page. While you sort laundry, do dishes, or try and catch a little television.
"Come inside Mr. Bird, said the mouse. I'll show you what there is in a People House." from the amazing Dr.Seuss.
I'm quite well read..
"Left foot, left foot, right foot, right. Feet in the morning, feet at night. Left foot, left foot, left foot, right." from the incredible "Foot Book" by the same author, as above.
Just be careful that the book throwing ends.. long before school textbooks enter the picture.
The pictures are absolutely adorable. Happy belated Anniversary.. to you, Soren.. and your Mom and Dad as well. What an amazing two years it's been for you!
Look forward to the next update..
Love you guys!
